What is it with this need to horde shows? One day you will have them all on your hard drive, then what? You win the internet? If you want to hear something in particular, then just go find it and stream it. It's out there somewhere anyway, to be enjoyed by all. Downloading shows that we enjoy and appreciate by only streaming them here on this site is not really necessary these days in my view. It's not cool really either, and besides, what is the point? When will you know you have it all? I have boxes of tapes in the basement next to my boxes of CD's. Now what, stack up my external hard drives next to them. This is such a wonderful place to come to and be able to hear music from a time when you and I presume, were to young to experience. I view the people who taped these shows and got them here for me to enjoy as heroes. The people who come here and abuse this site remind me of the gate crashers who eventually ruined the fun times of going to shows. You want ruin it for everyone else, but screw them, I got mine. They are called a leeches for reason, they suck the life out of everything around them. You should be thanking and financially supporting this IA and also thanking Jeff Kaplan for running a truly incredible web site, that I stream from 3 or 4 times a week. You coming here and bragging about how you are gaming the system here makes you sound like a DB. You probably have all the Nickelback shows as well? Don't be a leech and show some respect. Ok, getting down from soapbox, back to the music.

Hey, I love my Nickelback collection, have it right next to the Osmond Bros box set. Does that make me a douche? Guess you think it does.

You want to say "don't talk about stuff that is against the archive policy," fine.

But to suggest that people who want to have shows as opposed to streaming are hoarders is a bit much.

As a 138 show attendee I can tell you that the ONLY reason recordings are here to be streamed is people who obsessively collected allowed them to be. If someone wants to keep music from others, that's not in the spirit. But no one is trying to have all the shows in their possession and brag about it. At least I have never heard that.

Unfortunately I knew a few folks like that back in the mid 80's. They seemed to obsess over getting every show possible, regardless of the show or recording quality and then say "Hey, look at my HUGE collection!"...I'm thinking Freud might have something to say about that.

There are still groups of people who don't want things shared online with the general public, only specific people. I don't really care what they do, I have no real stake in the outcome.

Interesting we are being asked not to discuss this "backdoor" thing, which went on with more than a nod and a wink for almost a decade. My guess is the terse and "let's sweep this under the rug" response means it's more of a legal thing with the Dead than some effort to please the select group of uploaders allowed here. Again, I have no real stake in the outcome. And I'm sorry, but even when asked relatively nicely, asking or telling me not to do something is a sure way to get me to do it.

Either way, while the archive is a great resource for streaming and downloading music, I'm not going to complain about not having access to pseudo legal mp3's when the real thing is simply and easily available via a perfectly legal and GD-compliant torrent tracker. Most of them are higher up alphabetically in my bookmarks anyway.
